News from the ENTIS-ISoP-NFIF Education Course and the 27th Annual ENTIS Conference 2016

The European Network of Teratology Information Services (ENTIS) in association with the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISOP) and the Norwegian PhD School of Pharmacy (NFIF) recently provided an education course entitled Risk Assessment of Drug Use During Pregnancy and Lactation, which was delivered in the headquarters of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Berlin, Germany. The two day programme saw presentations provided from national and international experts in the fields of teratology, pregnancy and breastfeeding pharmacovigilance, and risk communication to over 100 delegates from around the world.

The 27th Annual ENTIS Conference was held after the ENTIS-ISoP-NFIF Pregnancy and Lactation Pharmacovigilance Education Course at the Virchow-Klinikum campus of the Charité Universitätsmedizin also in Berlin, Germany. The scientific programme included presentations from several ENTIS members and other international experts, discussing numerous topics including emerging teratogens (Zika virus), surveillance of biological therapies (tocilizumab) and antidepressants (opipramol), monitoring of therapeutic drug concentrations in pregnancy (levetiracetam), results from ENTIS collaborative studies, SSRI antidepressants and the risk of autism spectrum disorders, treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, endocrine disruption, the representativeness of women who contact teratology information services, and alternative approaches to birth defect assignment in clinical teratology. This year’s ENTIS Student award was presented to Fatih Akyol from Izmir, Turkey, for his oral presentation of preliminary results from a TIS study into thiocolchicoside exposure in pregnancy.

Many thanks to all who attended and made both the education course and the conference such a success. Official announcements regarding the 28th Annual ENTIS Conference are to be expected shortly.
