Risk of neurodevelopmental impairment following exposure to antiepileptic drugs in pregnancy

A collaborative of French researchers have conducted a nationwide cohort study investigating the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders among infants of women who used antiepileptic drugs during pregnancy. The study, which included >1.7 m children, identified strong associations between valproate use in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorder, while pregabalin use in pregnancy was associated with a marginal increased risk.
